Step 1: Get the device on hand
The removal process is just the opposite of installing a thermostat, similar to RiteTemp thermostat. First, the HVAC system has to be neutralized. Then the device can be taken away from the wall without posing any technical threat to the system as well as the electricity distribution. After ensuring that there is no power to thermostat, the user can proceed to the next step.
Step 2: Open up the back of the device
After removing it from the wall, the next thing to do is taking off the backside of the thermostat. Turning to the backside, some screws will be visible. These screws hold the back of the device to its display. Removing the screws with a standard-sized screwdriver will allow the user to pull apart the back from the display and motherboard unit.
Step 3: Unveiling the core of the device
After unscrewing the backside, the user will have to work with some more screws coming in the way to unveil the motherboard section of the device. This second layer is usually meant to be for providing some extra protection to the core of the device. As such, much care is required to unscrewing this part.
Step 4: Detaching the base connection

The user now has to take the battery on his fingertips and pull it away from the device very gently to disconnect it from the motherboard unit. After the unplugging, the battery can be detached fully from the device with a simple pull out.
Step 7: Placing in a new battery
The final work is to take a new battery for replacing the old one for the device. There are plenty of alternatives that can be found in the market for optimal output. Any one of these variants will perform well in the device. Putting back the tabs into the correct order, and screwing in the backs again to the main unit will reform the thermostat into its genuine shape. After that, simply putting the device to the wall and initiating the HVAC system will put it back to function.
An important thing to remember
The Nest Thermostats come with a manufacturer’s warranty for a certain period’s coverage. Even if the user doesn’t replace the battery of the devices, just opening up the main panel will void this warranty at once. As such, the user must attempt the procedure at his own risk after ensuring that he doesn’t want to claim the warranty services from the manufacturer or the service provider.
